Grow smarter, Grow Greener

A Modern media support cup that
replaces net pots and clay pebbles

GroCup is an innovative hydroponic growing media support cup designed to make plant propagation cleaner, more stable, and more efficient. It provides reliable support for rockwool and other grow media while improving airflow, drainage, and root development — without the mess and instability of traditional net pots.
Whether you’re a home grower, greenhouse operator, or commercial hydroponic facility, GroCup offers a simple upgrade that solves common growing problems.
The problem with traditional growing pots

Traditional net pot with loose clay pebbles causing disease, messy cleanup, tough sterilization and unstable grow media

Standard net pots and improvised grow cups often create issues such as:
Loose or unstable grow media
Poor root guidance and uneven growth
Excess moisture retention or inadequate drainage
Media falling apart during transplanting
These issues can lead to stressed plants, slower growth, and unnecessary maintenance.
The GroCup solution

GroCup hydroponic grow cup securely holding rockwool media and plant

GroCup is purpose-designed to securely hold cubic grow media such as rockwool while guiding roots naturally downward into the nutrient solution.Key benefits include:Stable media support
keeps growing blocks firmly in place
Improved root guidance — encourages healthy, downward root growthClean drainage — reduces oversaturation
and root rot risk
Reusable design — easy to clean and suitable for repeated growing cyclesGroCup integrates easily into common hydroponic systems and grow trays without modification.Designed for hydroponics and greenhousesGroCup is ideal for:Hydroponic growers
Recreational and commercial greenhouses
and nurseries
Indoor grow systems
Educational and research facilities
It is compatible with commonly available
grow media and is available in multiple sizes
to suit different plant stages and system layouts,
from 2in diameter up to 12in Dutch buckets
Simple, durable, and grower-focusedEvery detail of GroCup has been developed with
real-world growing in mind.
The design prioritizes:Ease of use
Consistency across grow cycles
Minimal waste
Long-term durability
The result is a grow cup that works with
your system — not against it.

Canadian and US Patents Pending

About US

We are located in the sunny, southern Okanagan area of BC, and have been researching this innovative product in our hobby, NFT-style greenhouse for several years, perfecting its design and operation,
and now we were ready to show it to you.

Typical home hydro set up using NFT troughs and Dutch Buckets

We have studied what greenhouse plants require for healthy growing, and we believe that one of them is being rooted in the environment provided by our patents pending, GroCupTM Hydroponic media support device. We wanted a solid support for the seed and growing media that was unmoving and that didn't need clay pellets to fill all the gaps. And, at the end of each growing season, we need to properly clean and sterilize our containers and all the clay pebbles that we used. lots of which dropped on the floor. If we didn't, then we could very likely introduce disease problems for the next generation of flowers and veggies. So we thought, "What if we didn't use
net pots and clay pebbles ?"
And so our GroCupTM Hydroponics
product was born

WHAT IT IS

In our NFT hydroponic greenhouse, while growing plants from tiny herbs, lettuce, lofty peas and beans, peppers, tomatoes, cucumbers and squash, through to giant cauliflowers, we found that they all need a solid support system for their roots, in order to establish a firm foundation for their
above-ground growth.
Even though most of the "taller" plants will require additional secure climbing supports as they grow upwards, without the correct root support and nutrient and oxygen intake, they may not mature properly, making them more prone to damage and disease. So we designed and 3D printed, several flat and funnel shaped containers, that would securely grip the growth media (like cube-shaped rockwool blocks), without using clay pebbles packed in and around, as with the conventional net pots.

One immediate benefit was that the roots had no "sideways" direction to grow, so they grew straight down into the nutrient flow. This made them easier to remove in the fall (roots weren't growing through the net pot slots, and weren't being entangled in
clay pebbles).
So what we designed is a whole family of GroCups from tiny 2in ones up to 12in ones suitable for round or square Bato (Dutch/Kratky) buckets. They will all be available for square or hexagonally shaped standard sized growth media, as well as for narrow and wide-mouthed Mason jars.

Plus, the larger Bato buckets will have an additional cover available for root protection and to support
the nutrient feeder tube.

BENEFITS

Whether you start your seeds in a germination tray, or directly into the grow media, when they are ready to transplant into your hydro system, you simply slide each seeded media cube into the GroCupTM and then into your NFT, DWC, drip or other hydroponic system, in the same way as before, replacing the
conventional net pots.
No clay pebbles are required
Very little set-up and break-down time
Easy to clean with nowhere to trap dirt
or algae growth
Funnel shaped top to ease addition of nutrients, especially when using Mason jars
Reduced size means they are more eco-friendly and cost efficient

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What size grow cubes do they hold ?Our plans are that you can use the standard Grodan-style 1 1/2in cubic media blocks for the smaller range of GroCups, and their 4in cubes for the larger
Bato (Kratky or Dutch) bucket ones.
We are planing to make GroCups for a larger range of rockwool media,as well as for the
hexagonal Growfoam media as well.
If you use your own custom made coir, hemp or pool noodles, you can easily cut them to shape
to be held in our cups.
The beauty is that you will not need to use gravel. Perlite or clay pebble fillers.

Will it fit my present net pot system ?We're planning to make a full range of GroCups from 2in up to 12in Bato bucket sizes. They might not fit some specialty vertical hydro systems, in which case, contact us and we will endeavour to make you some custom ones to fit. What colours can we get ?We're planning basic black or white, however, if you have a particular colour requirement, we can talk about changing for you.Do you ship to Canada and USA ?GroCupsTM were designed and invented in Canada, and yes, we make them here as well, so we will
have unrestricted distribution here.
When finally set up and fully operational, we will
be able to ship anywhere internationally, however some countries may have restrictive import
tariffs on various products, which unfortunately, the purchaser will need to pay upon
receipt of their shipment.
Is a GroCupTM reusable ?Yes indeed. If you are careful adding and removing the seeded growing media or transplant, and extracting the expired plant roots, there's no
reason why they can't outlive
conventional net pots.
One of the best features of our
GroCupTM is that its construction is strong
and robust and can easily stand up to its
designed use.

How many uses before cleaning ?In our greenhouse, we believe in cleaning
GroCupsTM at the end of each growing cycle.
This reduces the potential spread of miniscule
germs or disease that's present. The beauty of the GroCupTM is that they have very few nooks and crannies for dirt to hide in, that a simple soak
and wash in regular kitchen dishwash liquid
is what we do to keep them looking shiny new.
The added benefit, is that you no longer have to worry about clay pebbles or other LECA, so the
job is carried out much faster and with
major savings in labour and costs.
What material are they made from ?Good question. We make our GroCupsTM
from the same material that traditional net pots are made from, that is food-safe, UV stable, non-BPA plastics like Polypropylene (PP)
or Polyethylene (HDPE).
When they reach end of life, you will be able to add them to your other recyclables. We are thinking about making them from biodegradable materials, if the demand is there, so then you can add them to your
compost pile out back instead.
